Cachet Reformed Church is a congregation that is part of the Reformed Churches in South Africa (RCSA). Our beliefs are therefore clearly stated in the creeds that summarizes the RCSA’s confession of faith. One of these, the Apostles’ Creed, dates as far back as the second century, receiving its final form in the fourth century. Together with the early church we confess the Apostles’ Creed:
We believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic [universal] church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
The other two creeds, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed, also date from the fourth century. Both of these creeds were written in opposition to certain heretical views regarding the Trinity in this time period. It therefore gives a clear expression of what we believe about God as a triune God.
The Three Forms of Unity (also known as the Reformed Confessions) are confessions which were written in the 16th and 17th centuries – after the Reformation took place. In these confessions you will see what we believe the Bible teaches about certain things such as sin, salvation, prayer, providence and much more:
